Misanthrope (from Greek misos — hatred + anthrōpos — human) — a person who has a negative attitude towards humanity, often considering it corrupt, deceitful, or foolish. This is a person who avoids communication with others, does not like human society, or regards people in general with distrust and contempt.
A misanthrope is someone who avoids crowds and social contacts, feels aversion to loud gatherings, meetings, parties, and often prefers solitude or communication only with a select few. Such a person does not just dislike being among others — they may feel an internal exhaustion from the presence of a large number of people or even irritation due to the superficiality or intrusiveness of social connections.
A misanthrope believes that most people are selfish, hypocritical, or immoral. They tend to view society as corrupt, prone to deception, selfishness, and lies, often distrustful of the good intentions of others and seeing hidden benefits behind outward politeness.
In general, such a person has a pessimistic view of society — they do not expect moral progress, sincerity, or humanity from it. Deep down, a misanthrope may perceive society as an environment in which it is difficult to remain honest and good, because the value system, in their opinion, has long lost its moral foundation.
