What is a diaspora? It is when a large group of people from one country lives in another country but maintains their culture, language, and traditions. So, a diaspora is simply when people spread out across the world but still keep in touch with their homeland.
For example, Ukrainians have a diaspora in many countries, such as Canada, the USA, and Poland. This happened for various reasons: wars, economic difficulties, or simply the desire for new opportunities. People can live far from their home country but still preserve their traditions — for example, celebrating Ukrainian holidays, speaking Ukrainian, and making borscht or varenyky.
The diaspora helps people not feel lonely in a new place. Because, in reality, it can be quite difficult to move to another country where no one understands your language, where there are no acquaintances. But then you meet people who are also Ukrainians, and suddenly you feel at home. This is the power of the diaspora!
