Assimilation is the process by which something changes under the influence of another to better adapt or become part of a whole. Imagine that you find yourself in a new environment, for example, moving to another country. To feel more comfortable there, you start learning the language, traditions, customs, and eventually integrate them into your life. This is assimilation.
This process can change our lives in various ways. For example, you feel more confident and comfortable in a new environment, becoming part of a new community. How important this can be for people who emigrate to other countries and seek to find new friends, work, or simply feel “at home.” Assimilation helps them adapt and reduces feelings of isolation.
But it is worth noting that assimilation is a process that can also affect the culture of society as a whole. When many people with different cultural traditions start interacting, it can enrich the local culture, creating something new and interesting. Thus, diversity becomes part of our lives, and we learn to accept and appreciate different approaches and ideas.
