Integration in simple terms is the process of connecting or including something into something larger. Imagine you are joining a new company or school. To become part of this group, you need to "mix" with people, get used to their rules and customs. This is integration. A synonym for the word integration could be "inclusion" or "combination".
What is integration when it comes to life or work? It is about finding common ground with a new environment and adapting to it. For example, when you move to another country, you need to learn to live by their customs, perhaps learn the language. To integrate means to fit into a new environment, to become part of it.
Advertising integration, on the other hand, is a form of hidden or native advertising, where the advertising content is organically embedded into the main material (video, article, podcast, show, etc.), not appearing as a separate advertising insert. The main idea is that instead of direct advertising — there is a casual mention of a brand, product, or service that looks like part of the main content.
Examples:
- In a YouTube video, the blogger says:
“This episode was made possible by the food delivery service FoodBox — I order from there all the time!”
-
In a series, the character uses a specific brand of phone or car — this is also integration.
-
In an article on a news site, a service is mentioned in the text with a link — for advertising purposes, but it looks like advice.
There are advantages for advertisers here, as such advertising does not annoy viewers, unlike traditional ads, it generates more trust and lasts longer — because it is integrated into the main content. Conditionally speaking, advertising integration is "advertising that disguises itself as content".
