Let's consider the two main meanings of this word.
- Cache is a temporary data storage used for quick access to frequently used information. The main purpose of the cache is to speed up the operation of the system or application by reducing the need to reprocess or reload the same data. When a computer or program first accesses certain information (for example, a web page, image, or computation result), this data is stored in the cache. Upon subsequent access, the system first checks the cache — if the data is already there, it loads much faster than from the main source (hard drive, server, etc.).
Types of cache:
-
Browser cache — stores parts of websites (images, styles, scripts) for faster page loading.
-
CPU cache — stores recently used instructions and data for quick access.
-
Application cache — for example, in Instagram or YouTube — stores media that has already been viewed to avoid reloading it.
-
Database cache — remembers query results to reduce server load.
- In the sense of money, the word cash (from English cash) means cash — that is, physical money in coins or banknotes that can be used immediately for payment.
The word cash comes from the Old French caisse — "box" or "money box," and further from the Latin capsa — "container." In modern English, cash has come to denote cash money, while the Ukrainian "кеш" is its phonetic borrowing.
Usage examples:
-
"I will pay in cash" — that is, with cash, not by card or transfer.
-
"He has a lot of cash" — he has a lot of cash money.
