A mantra is a special word or phrase that we recite to change our inner state or even influence the reality around us. Mantras are like special “passwords” that open doors to peace, concentration, or harmony. Essentially, what is a mantra if not a way to tune your mind to a certain frequency?
In different cultures and traditions, mantras can vary, but they are usually simple and easy to remember. For example, in yoga, the mantra “Om” is often used. It is believed that this mantra is the sound of the Universe, and when you repeat it, you are tuning into its rhythms.
A mantra is a sacred word, phrase, or sound that is repeated many times during meditation, prayer, or spiritual practice with the aim of focusing consciousness, clearing thoughts, or achieving inner peace.
The word “mantra” comes from Sanskrit:
- “man” — to think, mind;
- “tra” — instrument, means.
“Mantra” can also mean a phrase that a person constantly repeats as a life rule:
“Her favorite mantra is ‘everything will be fine’.”
